North Indian marriage customs:

Normally the bride wears red colored banarasi saree and crown that resembles princess. Her face and forehead will be decorated with pastes of sandalwood. As a ritual the bride should sit on low wooden stool which is lifted with the help of her brothers. The bride makes a round of groom seven times.
South and West Indian marriage customs:
Most of the south and West Indian marriages are of same kind. These marriages start at the morning or evening. Prior to wedding ceremony, engagement ceremony takes place and it can be day before wedding ceremony or some months before the actual wedding. This engagement is to formally announce the betrothal. At the beginning of marriage Lord Ganesha pooja is conducted to avoid all the obstacles during marriage. Normally these marriages takes place for two to three days.
